Igor Ellyn is a Chartered Arbitrator and Mediator with extensive experience in the resolution of commercial disputes in contract, shareholder, corporate, leasing, real estate, joint venture, development and other matters. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and was Chair of the Toronto Chapter of CIArb. He is a Past President of the Ontario Bar Association.
Mr. Ellyn has arbitrated and mediated for over 20 years, Mr. Ellyn also participates annually as a presenter and advocacy coach at the Osgoode Hall Professional Development LL.M. program on International Commercial Arbitration. He has also been a gues arbitrator at the VIS East Arbitrartion Moot Competition. He is the author of the Litigating and Arbitrating Business Disputes (Lexis-Nexis) and of the Canada chapters of Liability of Corporate Directors and Enforcement of Money Judgments (Juris Publishing).
He is co-editor of ArbitrationandBusinessDisputes.ca, a blog which summarizes leading cases about arbtration and business matters (Kathryn Manning and Robin Dodokin). Mr. Ellyn has also written many articles about business and arbitration matters and has presented and lectured on arbitration and litgation matters. He is a member of four arbitration panels: 1) ICDR-American Arbitration Association; 2) Arbitration Committee of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce; 3) Bucharest (Romania) International Arbitration Centre; and 4) ADR Chambers International.
Igor Ellyn is a member of the Ontario Bar and has had temporary calls to the Bar of Lincoln's Inn (U.K) and le Barreau de Quebec. He was appointed Queen's Counsel and certified as a Specialist in Civil Litigation. He is a 2023 recipient of the Law Society Medal. He has appeared as lead counsel in hundreds of omplex cases in the Ontario Superior Court, the Court of Appeal and on four occasions, in the Supreme of Canada.
Igor Ellyn speaks English, French and Romanian fluently. He s also very conversant in Hebrew and German and has some comprehension of Spanish and Italian.
